Well, my first video for my new blog didn't go exactly as I planned. But, I thought it made for good reading, so I'm posting my experience.
My sweet husband, Chris, took our two children outside so I could film the first portion of the video. I set up the camera and I prepped my kitchen with what I needed for my Strawberry Cobbler. I was ready.
I started filming and everything was going smoothly at first. Then, I started hearing my dog whining at the door. Missing Chris I imagine. Of course the super small microphone on my video picked up the screeching. "Keep filming, just keep filming!"
I added my strawberries to my electric chopper and of course it didn't turn on. I checked the plugs a few times and then finally it started to chop. Next I checked on my melting butter in the oven and it still wasn't completely melted. Oh my word. I decided to just throw out the rest of the unmelted butter so I could attempt to keep the everything running smoothly. I didn't need that much butter anyway!
I put the cobbler in the oven and then pushed pause on the video camera. While I waited an hour for the cobbler to cook, I watched what I taped. I was surprised (and yet I wasn't)to see that half my head was cut off during the whole segment. "Okay, I can handle this. No big deal, I can re-tape the first part and then show my first cobbler as the final result."
I started prepping for my second attempt to film and noticed I was out of milk. Ugh! Think, Think.....I used the rest of my daughter's formula from her bottle that was left out all day...hey, the audience won't know the difference. I'll be tasting the first cooked cobbler anyway. I'm so clever.
My husband came back from outside just in time. He filmed my second take. My six year old son was so excited that I was making a "tv show," he wanted to be on too when I filmed the best part...tasting the cobbler.
I pulled the dessert out and it looked so yummy. My son, Sam came onto the "set" and was so excited to be on "tv". I started forking the cobbler onto a plate and then my son said, "It smells gross. I'm not eating that." CUT!!!
Not only was I out of milk, I was out of strawberries too, but my mood to film anymore was long gone.
So, I took my cobbler, ate it and loved it! The batter was perfectly crispy along the edges. I used just the right amount of butter. The strawberries were perfectly sweetened. It just melted in my mouth!
Although the filming was a disaster, the final product was scrumptious!
For all those out there that may want to give this recipe a try here it is:
Strawberry Cobbler
Preheat oven to 325 and melt 1/4 cup of butter in a 9x9 pan. (Cake pan works too)
In a separate bowl add:
1 cup of Flour
3/4 cup of Sugar
2 tsp of Baking Powder
3/4 cup of Milk
Once the butter has melted pull it out of the oven and add batter to the pan.
Pour on top 2 cups of smashed strawberries or your favorite fruit.
Bake for 1 hour.
What a delicious dessert. Thank you to my friend Sarah for such a great recipe!
